One recent Saturday morning, I had a craving for a hamburger, but I also wanted to go to a nice restaurant. So our concierge recommended DB Bistro Moderne. I learned that paying $32 for a hamburger is not worth it. Here’s what I had:
THE ORIGINAL db BURGER
Sirloin Burger Filled with Braised Short Ribs
Served on a Parmesan Bun
Pommes Frites
$32
The burger was huge, and the meat of a very high quality. But it didn’t taste that great. Certainly not $32 good. Maybe $18, on the high end, if I had to put a price on it. No hamburger is worth $32. It has been decreed. Hell, they even have $150 burger with truffles. It is simply impossible to receive $150 of value from a hamburger. Oh, and the fries were not that good.
Miffed by my experience at DB, I decided to try at least one hamburger a day for a week. I ate way too many hamburgers, but I had to make up for my $32 experience. And you know what? All of my sub $15 burgers had much better flavor and all came with better French fries.
Original db Burger: Never again.
