I recently had the opportunity to visit the top-rated Zagat restaurant in Brooklyn, called Locanda Vini e Olli. Our group of four ordered the $45 four-course tasting menu. In total, we each tried about 12 dishes, all of which were fantastic. It was easily one of the tastiest meals I have ever had, and certainly worth a trip to Brooklyn.
Our meal:
First course – Charcuterie “Della Terra”
Pork loin “Tonnato”
Duck and prune “Terrina”
“Coccoli fritti” fried dough with stracchino
Pasta course
Eggplant Maltagliati “Alle nuova checca” – raw cherry tomatoes, ricotta & fresh basil
Black pepper pici – roasted onions, grana padano & tarragon
Ravioli – some sort of unbelievable creation of sea bass filled ravioli
Main feast
Braised Piemontese beef “alle cipolle” – with cannellini beans in x.v. olive oil
Grilled duck breast “fichi e scalogno” – with chick peas in x.v. olive oil
Dessert course
Cherry pie
Ricotta cheesecake
Chocolate cake
The true standouts were the sea bass ravioli and the duck breast. It was truly a pleasure to dine at Locanda Vini e Olii, and if I am ever in the neighborhood, I hope to be back.
