It baffles me how much people enjoy Magnolia Bakery. The food is not good, and it is possibly the most overrated dessert place in New York. The cakes and cupcakes are dry and the icing is tasteless fluff. Oh, and it is extraordinarily expensive for the quality.
$5.50 for a slice of cake is fine, if the cake is going to be good. Hell, I would happily pay $25 for a slice of cake if it were made of high quality ingredients and had delicious flavor. Magnolia does not. Yet somehow they are perpetually busy and overflowing with business. I just don’t get it.
